![]() So they were originally 30-06 guns built during WWII, used by US or more likely UK troops as part of Lend Lease Contract or included in an Armored Vehicle contract, then sold by the UK in the 1950's to Israel. Still very cool history when you see an original Saginaw side plate with Izzy markings on it and the top cover with a matching number. 308 caliber on all of them and they stamped the top covers to match the side plates to assure they were mated back to the originals. Clearly the Israelis did this and smartly I might add as they removed the top covers to do internal modifications for the. the lack of the cut out for the front sight and the bolt on the top as apposed to the safety wire. ![]() Even though the top covers I have that are Israeli do not have any of the later modifications and are clearly WWII parts i.e. About half the numbers are clearly not the same font, where others are or incredibly close by coincidence.Ĭonclusion is it would be highly unlikely they were stamped at the same-time as the side plates and most likely impossible to have been. ![]() I say this as I took another look at the numbers on the plates and the top covers under super magnification and while they are the same size the fonts are not an exact match. I take back what I said before and 100% agree with you that the numbers on either side of the top cover paw areas are Israeli add ons. ![]()
